Pacific Dining Car

The other night, I went out with a friend. Famished, we tried to figure out where to eat.  The problem, though, was that we were in Downtown Los Angeles, and it was almost midnight.  She was wearing flip-flops, and I was wearing jeans, a t-shirt, and beat up tennis shoes.

But I had an idea.

I called the Pacific Dining Car, a magnificent steak house just a bit east of Downtown on Sixth Street.  Yes, they were open (in fact, they’re ALWAYS open), and yes, they had relaxed the dress code since I was last there.  So Pacific Dining Car it was.

A $12 glass of wine and $50 filet mignon later, I was satiated.  Though it was a definite hit to the wallet, I’d say it goes on my list of the best steaks in the greater Los Angeles area.  Yes, there’s the Ruth’s Chris chain, and Maestros in Beverly Hills, but I’m not a big fan of a butter-drenched steak.  Arroyo Chophouse/Parkway Grill (they’re practically identical) aren’t too bad, but they can be mediocre, too.  JJ’s is just too expensive, and as much as I love the private clubs, their hours are far too limited.

If you’re in LA at any hour in the morning and you just need that steak, lobster, or combination thereof, hit up Pacific Dining Car.  It rocks.
